Dry Skin
Staying out of the sun, eating healthy and drinking plenty of water is a good start to having healthy looking skin. You shouldn't be washing your face more than twice a day with a gentle cleanser. Try to take a warm shower instead of a hot shower and try to keep the time you are in there to a minimum. Once out of the shower, instead of wiping yourself dry with a towel, pat yourself to avoid wiping away your bodies essential oils. Put lotion on when your skin is damp and look for a lotion with less ingredients. Lotions have two different ingredients for two different tasks. There are binders, which pulls moisture from inner layers of skin to outer layers of skin. There are also barriers, which keep moisture on the skin. Binder ingredients include: glycerin, alpha hydroxy acids, urea and lactic acids, and Barriers include: petrolatum, lanolin or silicone derivatives. You want a lotion that has both binder and barrier ingredients. Caffeine and Alcohol dehydrate your skin, so try to keep your consumption of them down.

Aging Skin
You should always use a moisturizer that has an SPF of at least 15 and blocks UVA and UVB rays. Using this type of lotion will help to prevent wrinkles and age spots. Keep your skin moisturized in cold and extreme heat to keep it from drying out too much. Using an alpha-hydroxy cleanser and lotion will help to fade age spots already present. Using fade creams like Esoterica or Ambi at night can help to restore your skin to a uniform color.

Oily Skin
If you have oily skin, try and wash your face twice a day with just soap and water. There isn't a magic cleanser that will cure your oily skin. You should try different ones until you find one that works best for your skin type. Don't use a cleanser that makes your skin dry as your skin will produce more oil to replenish what it is lacking.

Determine your Skin Type
Wash your face with a cleanser and then dry your skin, pat it dry rather than wipe it dry. Wait about an hour and make a note of how your skin feels. If your skin feels tight, make sure your keep that in mind. Take pieces of tissue paper and press it onto the separate areas of your face: on your chin, the center of cheeks, then on your outer cheeks, then the center of forehead, your outer forehead and finally your nose. Keep them separate and remember where you put them after you used them. If there is oil on the tissue, then your skin type is oily. However, if there is only oil on some of the tissures, then your have a combination skin type. If you have flakes of skin on the tissue or your face feels tight, you have a dry skin type. And, if you have neither oil, nor skin on the tissue, you have a normal skin type.
